About Us
Rest Assured Technologies helps dentists save lives. We’re a solutions provider in Dental Sleep Medicine. We help dentists who want to screen and treat their patients for Sleep Related Breathing Disorders (SRBD), such as snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. We do this by
providing
- Comprehensive training in dental sleep medicine in the office for the dentist and staff.
- This is not an expensive week-long retreat in another city, or a webinar that leaves you with more questions on how to get started and manage your practice. This is hands on, clinical, practical and effective.
Company Background
In the fall of 2006, James E. Sweeney, DDS became interested in Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) as a serious disease and public health issue after two fatal vehicle accidents attributed to OSA that involved close acquaintances. While he found great satisfaction in saving patients teeth, he now became committed to saving lives. Since 2006, Dr. Sweeney has been involved in intensive research relating to OSA and its existing treatment forms and protocols. His findings revealed that screening and treatment protocols were fragmented, inconsistent, and highly unsuccessful. This left millions of people undiagnosed and millions of others stuck in a broken system of
uncomfortable sleep tests and even more uncomfortable CPAP masks.
After careful investigation and evaluation of available dental solutions for treatment of sleep disordered breathing, Dr. Sweeney began clinical treatment of a small number of OSA sufferers. It became evident that dental solutions offered a much more patient-friendly and efficacious protocol than the CPAP standard, but it did not fit a dental business model.
Through trial and error Dr. Sweeney navigated the path for dentists to receive medical insurance for treating patients with OSA. At the same time he made successful modifications to the best available fabricated oral appliances. Successive improvements cut oral appliance costs and reduced dental chair time.
To assist dentists in the screening of patients Dr. Sweeney reviewed and investigated the advantages and disadvantages of the best sleep screening tests in medical science. Using those tests and with the data from doing thousands of patient screenings, he devised a highly accurate and simple screening tool.
He was successfully treating patients, but the business processes were arduous and he knew the dental market needed a solution. With his son, James G. Sweeney, Dr. Sweeney created a business model for dentists to follow and incorporate dental sleep medicine into their practice. In 2009 Dr. Sweeney and his son founded Rest Assured Technologies to bring their solution to market and improve the lives of the millions who suffer from Sleep Disordered Breathing (SDB) and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.
